WESLEYAN CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.

Our Wesleyan friends are to be congratulated upon the excellent entertainment provided by them on the occasion of the Anniversary of the Church, indeed the arrangement of the programme was a credit to Mr. Holder and we venture to state from tbe applause that greeted item after item that his efforts were appreciated by the large audience assembled at the Opera House last evening. An overture by the Orchestra opened proceedings and was a rare musical treat and would have done credit to our city Orchestras for the execution was splendid. Mr. Stark hit the taste of the audience by his rendering of “ The Old Brigade,” a song that gave plenty of scope for the rich voice that handled it, an encore was the result. “A Song of Thanksgiving ” was Miss Pyke’s contribution and was sweetly rendered. Mr. Mitrendering of “ The Deathless Army,” was acknowledged by am encore. “ When Bright Eyes Glance ” by Mr. W. Holder was a well selected song in which this gentleman’s voice was heard to advantage. Miss Pyke, in the absence of Mr. Spindler, who had contracted a cold, rendered “ Beloved ’tis Morn,” in manner that exposed the talents of a magnificent singer. The second part was a unique exhibition of calisthenic movements by the boys of the Gymnastic Club, who have received their tution at the hands of Mr. 0. Wise, who deserves a word of praise for the clever performance. The handspringing exhibition by Master Hoglund and Sing was a really smart performance and we wish to see these young acrobats before a Greymouth a idience on some future occasion, and we have no doubt that Messrs Wise and Dixon will have again meted out to them the praise that their exertions deserve.
