Shipping Disaster—l 3 Drowned. Noumea, October 17. A terrible disaster occurred to-day. The steamer St Pierre while disembarking 30 recidivistes from the Isle of 1 mes into a launch, the' latter capsized, and all, including three women and the warders, were thrown into the water. The Kanaka crew of the St Pierre saved 15, including the women. At least 13, including a warder, were drowned. Several bodies were recovered.
