THE PAYMENT OF MEMBERS BILL.

Members Cautions.

[OUB PABLIAMENTABY BEPOETEB.]

Wellington, This Day,

The Government will not be able to count on their present majority of eight for the next stage of the Payment of members Bill.

Mr Millar voted with them in the preliminary division because he holds that it would not be right to refuse leave to introduce a bill sent down by the Governor’s message. In future he will be “ Agin the Government ” on this ques' tion.

Then Mr Ell, who is an out and out opponent of the Bill, missed the preliminary division. fn the second reading the division ia likely to show a very small majority in favour of the Government.
