The prisoner was making his appearance before tho Magistrate for the hundredth time.

‘Well,’ said the magistrate, ‘you are here again ?’ ‘Yes, yer washup,’ responded the prisoner.

‘What’s tho charge ?’ ‘Vagrancy —same as before, yer wash-

up.’ ‘lt seems to me you are here about half your time.’ ‘Yes, about tbet, yer washup.’ ‘Well, what do you do it .for? Why don’t you work ?’ ‘I do, yer washup, more than half me time.’ ‘Ah, now,’ said the magistrate, surprised, ’if yon can tell me where you have ever worked I will let you off.’ ‘ln prison, yer washnp,’ answered the prisoner, brazenly, and the magistrate kept his word.
