Dairy Produce. Wellington, This Day.
134 tons of new season’s dairy produce was sent Home by the Wakanui yesterday, namely, 104 tons from Wellington, 30 from Auckland, and 10 from Dunedin. Divorce Court.
In the Divorce Court a decree nisi was granted in the case of David Drake v. Annie M. Drake and Thomas McGovern. This was the sequel to the recent arrest, and bringing back of respondent and co-respondent from Auckland. Rifle Association. Wanganui, Oct 11. A meeting of shooting men was held this evening when it was decided to form a Wanganui and West Coast Rifle Association, the idea being to hold annual meetings and to encourage shooting. The officers of the corps from New Plymouth to Otaki were elected officials. Agricultural Show. Napier, October 11. The Hawkes Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society were favored with perfect weather for the second day of their show and the attendance was the largest ever seen on the ground. It is estimated that close on 10,000 people were present. The show of hacks and draughh horses were very fine, and the general quality of the exhibits in all the classes was excellent. M’Gann Committed for trial. Dunedin, Cot 11. At Tapanui to-day, Patrick M’Cann boarding-house keeper, was charged with wounding with intent to do grevious bodily harm to his wife. After hearing evidence Mr Cruickshank, S. M., said he felt satisfied the woman had been wounded, and an explanation was required, Accsued was committed for trial. Bail was fixed at accust .1 £2OO, and one surety for a similar sura. The Queen Victoria Statue. Dunedin, Oct. 11. The Queen Yictiria Statue Fund now totals £2.325. Cricket in New Zealand. Napier, This Day. A private cable states that A. E. Trott, who has been engaged to act as a “ coach ” for the Hawkes Bay Cricket Association, is now on his way out by the Waiwera. Fatal Accident. Dunedin, Oot. 11.
Daniel Bayley, a casual laborer on the railway while working a crane at the goods shed on Thuisday, slinging plates out of a truck, when two of tee plates slipped and struck him on the back of the head. He was dazed for some time and shortly afterwards left to go home. In the evening he was found lying on the side of the road in South Duuedin and removed to the hospital where ho died to-day. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned, and no blamo attached to anyone.
