Wellington, This Day. The following are the quotations at the Wellington Stock Exchange to-day =

Dunedin, This Day. The following quotations were recorded at the Dunedin Stock Exchange to-day:—

The Kawakawa Luminary says : —“Out of a consignment of 10 young ostriches, Mr Henry Lane (who has great faith in the industry) landed the other day at Opua, Bay of Islands, seven all well, two with broken wings, and one dead. Mr Lane expects to realise £IOO in feathers per annum. In the course of his summing up in some alleged fraudulent charges, heard in the -District Court, Masterton, on Thursday, his Honor District Judge Kettle remarked that very peculiar agreements wore made in racing transactions, and it would bo difficult for a Philadelphia lawyer to get at the bottom of some of them. District Judge Kettle has (says the Wairarapa Daily Times) withdrawn his objection to abjudicating on the libel actions Hornsby v. Morianyand Moiiiny v. Hornsby. Mr Kettle previously objected to hear the case owing to a member of Parliament being a party to the actions. The cases were mentioned last week, but were adjourned sine die. A. Ralston, the well known cyclist, has been placed on the scratch mark in the road race from Warrnarnbool to Melbourne, a distance of 165 miles. The event will be decided on the 12th inst.

“Was the man a friend of yours ?” his Worship asked a woman who was giving evidence at the Auckland Police Court on Wednesday. “ I have no friend in Auckland but God,” was the astonishing reply. “ I beg your pardon ?” said his Worship in a severe tone “ Granted,” answered the witness promptly. Mr Henry M. Stowoll, Maori census enumerator for the Taranaki dis'r'ct, in his report sa3S that when the census was being taken this year inquiries as to the number of stock provoked ret les cf bitter resentment from the followers of Te Whiti: —“ Me tatau tahi ano hold ngn, Poaka?” (“Must the pigs also b ft counted in with us?”)
