Seplying to a deputation the Premier gave the curios reason for the hitherto persistent refusal of Parliament to amend the Libel Law, while recognising the need of the amendment. He said it was difficult to get the Bill through because newspapers did not deal too tenderly with members. Want of tenderness lay in reporting those scenes which unfortunately occurred in Parliament, which members afterwards regretted. The Ariadne Case. The Immigration Restriction Bill which has reached the Senate is likely to cause the first difficulty between the two Houses.
