DARKIES' TERRACE COMPANY.

We are informed that it is the intention of an Auckland syndicate to, develop tho Darkies’ Terrace on a large scale. It is a recognised fact that this locality was tho richest marine deposit discovered on the West Coast, and we hear there are still 75 acres acres or thereabouts of highly payable drifts still unworked. Tho great drawback has been tho want of water on tho higher levels ; but it now appears that this difficulty has been overcome. The large boiler of the Heskoth has been purchased, and it is intended to place a powerful pumping plant for the Jiurpose of working the three existing evels which lie at an altitude of 175/ 300, and 450 feet. The Syndicate purpose working the lower level first, and this it is considered will occupy 5 years at least to work out, and altogether it is stated that the ground should last from 30 to 40 years. Tho present owners have turned over about 5 acres of ground for a return of something like £15,000. The top lead has been thoroughly prospected, and it was found that tho wasn runs from 12 to 15 feet deep with an average value of 2 dwts to the load. Mr Thompson, the representative of the syndicate, states that it is intended to commence operations before Christmas.
