WRECK OF A SCHOONER.
(pee press association)
Auckland, Oct 8.
The Tovinui, from Fiji, brought intelligence of the wreck of the schooner Eastward Ho, owned by Mr Krafft, of Leviuka on Sunday September 22. The weather was squally and dark and the schooner was making way on the sea side of Horseshoe Keef when she was suddenly in the breakers and settled down in them, making water heavily.
Captain Bysantson was compelled to leave her, and with the crew proceeded in a boat to Mataka where they remained until the following morning. The Eastward Ho was loaded with 17,000 feet of vesi logs and sawn timber, There was no insurance on either the ship or cargo. The wreck was sold for £142 but she subsequently broke up, her destruction being probably hastened by the pounding of the logs against tho sides of the schooner.
