GOLD DREDGING.

The Grey Eiver dredge was stopped yesterday through a breakage, but is again at work to-day. She ia expected to get about 25 ounces, and would have got more but for the mishap. Bignell’a No Town claim and timber which came under the hammer to-day was sold for <660.

Prom Mr Kingswell el Beafton, we today learn that the Buller donation dredge which is now working at the bottom end of tho claim got 43azs Sdwts for 116 hours’ work. She bottomed at 26 feet on Monday last. The Leviathan is having a thorough overhaul this week, several worn-out parts being replaced. The barge is not so much strained as was at first supposed. She will start working again on Monday, and should get on to good wash in about six days. Steam was got up on the Hokitika Eiver dredge at Kanieri yesterday and the machinery was found to work very satisfactory, and tho dredging operations will be commenced immediately when we hope the shareholders will receive good returns for there outlay. A large number were present viewing the operations, amongst them being Mr W. Eollitt, the Secretary of the Coy, Mr Wolodge, Chairman of the Eed Jacks Coy, a number of gentlemen from Greymouth and a large contingent of townspeople and local residents. Considerable interest was taken in the dredge and numerous wishes expressed that it will have a successluf future before it,
