ETHIOPIAN ENTERTAINMENT.
The fifth of a soriiu! of entertainments given by the Ethiopian Entertainers held in the Opera House last night in aid of St Patrick’s Church Fund drew a crowded house. Of the entertainment itself it was perhaps, the best of the series, going with a swing from start to finish and being deservedly applauded throughout. The orchestra under the control of Mr Aptod discoursed excellent, music. The overture “Monarch of Fun” being well rendered. The oper tag chorus ‘ Prink of Red Wine”
was rendered in a manner that pleased! the audience well. Mr Spindeler in hi» song “Masseys in the cold ground’’ was in excellent voice and gave a capital rendering. Mr Guthrie sang “Eoot-it-i----toofc” in his well known style, whileMiss Holder in the ‘Swanee River’ 5 ’ delighted and charmed the' audiences with her beautiful rendering of this: old and popular song. Mr Mitchell was equally successful in his tenor solo “Let the Angels In.’’ As usual Mr Moss was a host in himself, and in “Olimb up Chillun Climb” and “Sister Mary walks like this’’ had the house in roars of laughter and applause. Mr Stark’s rendering: of “Juliana” was one of his very best efforts and was excellently received. Miss Chapman, owing to the unavoidable absence of Miss Pyke, sang “Island of Dreams” with rare artistic skill, “Tho Mulligan Guards’’ given in a good rollicking . style by the company, brought tho first part of the progrsmme to a close.. After an overture by the orchestra—- “ The Village Festival ’’—the laughable farce of “ Brother Bill and Me ’’ was staged. The following amateurs taking part, and all acquitting themselves in an admirable manner Misses M. Dunford, E. Doherty, J. Matheson, Messrs A. Smith, M, J. Fogarty, F. Shallorass, O. Edgen, and W. O’Rielly, The farce kept the audience convulsed with laughter from start to finish, and sent them home well pleased with their evening’s entertainment.
Owing to illness Miss Oxenham, one of our leading soprano singers was unfortunately unable to assist in tho concert.
