TIMBER ROYALTIES.

Wellington, This Day. The gazetting of increased royalties on timber having been brought under Guinness’s notice by Messrs Jay and Baxter, representing the West Coast timber companies, the member for Grey arranged an interview with the Premier and Minister for Lands. It was represented by tho deputation that contracts had been entered into on royalties previously charged, and a very serious loss was likely to result to contractors under new rates. Tho Premier said ho bad no knowledge that the increased royalties had boon made, and promised after mature inquiry, to have the matter brought before tho Cabinet at an early date with a view to having the question lovicwcd.
