QUARTZ MINING NOTES.
The Keep-it-Dark Co has declared its 131st dividend, the amount being sixpence per share, Mr. A. W. Mills, manager of the Britannia Gold Mining Company, has. received information that a parcel of tailings treated at Dapto works, Victoria, has proved to be worth £62 per ton,
The Westport Times learns from Mr. Feddersen, of Lyell, that stone was struck in No 7 level at the Alpine mine. Some of the stone had been crushed with only fair prospects. It is to be hoped that the find will prove unimportant one. The discovery of a continuous ore body in a new part of the mine will certainly encourage further development in the locality. The Inangahua Herald says, to take down ten heads of stampers, remove same to a fresh site two miles distant which had to be prepared, build battery and machine shed, place five heads in position and start work in 29 working days, is a record despatch in battery erection in this district. This, however, has been effected
in connection with the removal and re-er
ection of the Fiery Cross battery from old site to Specimen Hill The work
was commenced on August 20 and the battery was started on September 26. Actus! crushing commenced with five beads on Monday last, and on Saturday after putting through 27 tons the very handsome result was obtained of 1570zs of amalgam. •
