GOLD DREDGING.
It was reported in town last night that driving in No 7 level, in the Alpine mine has disclosed two feet of stone.
The Island Creek dredge is at present working through tailings. There is said to be a good show of gold on the mats. There was no wash up at Reeves’ Proprietary last week. Short time was worked. The manager is quite confident that the returns in future will bo highly payable, and will Compare favorably with those of other dredges. The Stoney Creek Mining Company will be in a position to commence operations in about six or eight weeks’ time. A manager from Auckland has been appointed. As there is some good stone in sight, and the Company have a good battery and other necessaries, their enterprise should bo rewarded. At present over half a dozen men are employed.
