A PRESENTATION
Few teachers are employed by the Grey Education Board whose work and charcter are more appreciated than Mr A. J, Wiokes, late teacher of the Paroa School. On Friday evening last he was invited to a special meeting at Paroa, which was presided over by the Chairman of the School Committee, M. Dowling, Esq., On behalf of the committee and parents he was presented with a testimonial, and on behalf of the pupils and residents he was the recipeint of a pair of gold sleeve links and a silver mounted flask. After the presentations took place and several addresses had been given, complimenting Mr Wiokes on his work, a very enjoyable evening was spent in singing, etc. The following is the text of the testimonial•
It is close on three years since you were appointed Head Teacher in charge of the Paroa School. From that time to this you notably performed your arduous duties with an even tenor of ability and success. Your control and discipline in the school tempered with fairness and kindness were most praiseworthy and your earnest attention to duty is shown by the fact that you have not been absent one working school day in the above period of time, You have spared no trouble to advance the children in their studies which is testified by the high results obtained at the Annual Examination and which mark you as a good sound teacher.
The pupils you presented at the Technical Examination obtained very high results which were greatly appreciated. We are sorry to lose your services but are highly pleased to know that your transfer is promotion, ■. ' Wishing you every success on behalf of the parents, we are:—Thomas Colton, Thomas Parish, George Gilbert. F. McGowan. James Keith (Chairman), Michael Dowling (Secretary).
