PRESENTATION TO PREMIER.
A very handsome address, richly bound in book form, has been forwarded to the Premier by prominent English labour leaders. The address congratulates Mr Seddonon New Zealand’s adoption of the ohl-age pension system and pays a tribute to .the young nation which, free from the extremes of wealth and poverty that disfigure the social life of the Old World, “ has had faith and courage, and has felt the charm of great ideas. It has recognised the duty of society to the individual as well as that of the individual to society. Its social conscience has in this matter, reached a higher point in ethical evolution than that of many an older race. Its initiative has been followed by Victoria and by New South Wales and the creation of the National Committee of Organised Labour is the direct result of the influence of its ideas working here. Of your personal share in moulding the life of your nation we would say that it commands our admiration and respect.” , The list of signatures includes those of Messrs T. Burt, John Burns, Geo. N. Barnes, Keir Hardie, and others widely known.
