The news has been received of the death of Captain Peebles, comminding ihe steamer Lincolnshire, which visited New Zealand last year. Ho also commanded the sailing ship Osage in the Home trade and with New Zealand,
Cape Mdremn reports the steamer Qairang passing signalled that she had the crew of the Moonstone, which was wrecked at Ocean Isla-id, aboard. The Moonstone, steamer. 2140 tons, belonged to the Pacific Islands Company and went to the Islands from Noumea to load phosphates for Lyttelton. There are no details of the wreck.
The steamer Mokau, 150 tons carrying capacity, built to the order of the Mokau Coal Co. was launched at Drake’s yard, Balmain.
