DEATH.
* . Why should we fear to die, And shrink when Death is nigh? A passing dream Is life, with nightmares filled; The throbbing heart is stilled In Lethe's stream! Chained to the car, of life, We mingle in the strife, With hope our guide. We see our fellows fall, In vain for help they call, Too sorely tried! The world is very cold, Its sorrows are untold; The weak succumb. 'Ti« Nature's law, and all Who would for pity call Might well be dumb. Since Time began to be Have triumphed tyranny '' And policy! The deep, the cunning rule; Deceit sets lip her school From conscience free! Then come, 0 Deatli! Thine arm Caii never do us harm On Life's wild shore. Thy looks are fierce, but thou The way to peace canst show For evermore!
