BRUNNER BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held in the Council Chambers in Brunner last evening. Present: Qrs Nyberg (chair), Cosgrove, Watson, Griffiths, Creagh, O'Donnell and Robinson.

The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed and outward correspondence approved of. Inward correspondence read and dealt with as follows '• —From Invercargill Borough Council asking the co-oper-ation of this Council to get legislation passed that local bodies.can get cheaper money. It was proposed by Cr. Robinson and seconded by Cr. Creagh that with the object of reducing the annual payment Of interest by local bodies the Government be requested to introduce legislation to allow of money being borrowed by the country at as low a rate as •possible, and loaned to local authorities at a*r"ate not exceeding 3$ per'cent per annum, such advance to be made from time to time as the present loans mature. Carried.

Prom the Audit Department returning ' annual balance-sheet. Received and ordered to be printed. The Mayor and Cr. Creagh were ordered to sign the rate book.

Eesolved on the motion of Cr. Robinson that the Works Committee visit the Blackball road and report as to the best method of spending the rest of the Government grant.

Proposed by Cr. O'Donnell, and seconded by Cr. Creagh, that this Council express its. satisfaction at the gentlemanly and courteous manner in which Mr Vowell has carried out his duties of Town Clerk.

Cr. Robinson spoko in favour of the motion, and advocated recognising his services and presenting him with a testimonial. It was decided that he consult with 'the Mayor on the question.— Carried.

tb was resolved that the Works' Committee report on the best method of repairing the roads.

From the proprietors Brunner News, asking for the printing and advertising. Proposed by Cr. Robinson, seconded by Cr. Cosgrove, that their application be agreed to at rate formerly paid.

A number of accounts ■ were read and passed for payment, after which the Council rose.
