The Scow, Oban Capsizes. Blenheim, This Day. The scow Oban, of 40 tons, was struck by a: j squall, and capsized yesterday morning at;one o'clock off Ketu Bay, Pelorus Sound. Captam Bonnor and his son clung to the vessel and were rescued about eight o'clock. The other members of the crew and a Swede named Andrew Anderson were drowned. The. Oban was in ballast from Wanganui to Pelorus for timber. . A telegram from Havelock states that the scow Oban, 40 tons, was struck by a squall and capsized in Pelorous Sound I near Ketu Bay, at 1 a.m. yesterday. Andrew Anderson, one of the crew, aged 31, was drowned. Two other members of the crew held on to- the vessel for seven hours when they were rescued.
, A Peculiar Case. New Plymouth, This Day. In the Police Court this morning, • James M'Cullum, chairman of .the Okato School Committee was fined 10/- and costs for disturbing a school by dismissing the scholars during the Inspectors visit. The prosecution was the outcome of a trouble between the Board and the Committee and the Inspector. The case of the Marlborough Education Board and Blenheim Committee was quoted, in which Judge Edwards held that control of educational matters was in the hands of the Board. Defendant pleaded "guilty." Fire Brigade Superintendant. Auckland, This Day.
