GOLD DREDGING.
The Grey River'washed up yesterday with 9ozs sdwts for 70 hours dredging. Mr Cray informs us that the dredge is now crossing the stream towards Stillwater. It was at this spot that the best prospects were obtained. <
The bottom tumbler of the Old, Dig* gings dredge broke on Thursday when the dredge was within 15 or 20 yards off the part where the dredgemaster expected to find good gold. There appears to have been a flaw in the tumbler as it was a new one and only recently placed on the dredge. A portion of the maohinery for the Woodstock Coy's dredge has been shipped to Lyttelton from Christchurch, and may now be expected to arrive here during the> week. The pontoons are expected to be finished in about four weeks time.
Mr Wilkinson, contractor for building El Dorado pontoons, loft Wellington today. He intends to proceed with the work at once, as the timber is mostly on the ground. Mr Wylie, representing Mr Payne consulting engineer, rebeived a wire thta morning stating that the Falrdown Coy's pontoons will be launched on Thursday 1 next. .
The balance of the maohinery for the Prince of Wales Gold Dredging Coy is expected to arrive from Home in about seven weeks time.
