ALPINE QUARTZ COMPANY.

At the extraordinary meeting of the Alpine Company, which was held at Lyell on Tuesday, the shareholders were largely represented. The Company is divided into 50,000 shares, and the share* holders at the meeting represented personally and by proxy 43,389 shares. The two items of chief interest disposed of were the location of the office of the Company, hitherto situated at Lyell, and the appointment of manager. On the proposal to removing the office to Eeefton, the voting was 25,311 for and 17,878 against, there being a majority of 7433 in favour of the the proposal. Mr P, N. Kingswell was elected manager by a like majority of 7,433, receiving 25,311 votes as against 17,878 recorded for Mr J. Steele. Some depreciatory comment has been passed upon the proposal to remove the Company’s office from Lyell to Eeefton, but the entire matter is one resting so entirely with the shareholders that it should be altogether excluded from outside criticism. In fact the ventures throughout the world in the hands of registered companies the location of the office for the formal transaction of business is governed by the will of the majority of the shareholders. While referring to the subject we only state for general information that upwards of £14,000 shares, or nearly one-third of the total shares in the Company, are hold in Eeefton. Apart from this the chief factor in determining the removal of the Company’s office from Lyell to Eeefton is the absence of banking facilities at the former place.
