Spread of Phthisis.
Sydney, Sep. 6. A deputation of leading doctors secured Hall for a public meeting to urge upon Government the immediate establishment of a Hospital for the treatment ol advanced cases of phthisis. B~J| The City Council is taking precautions to prevent the spread of the disease by checking the expectoration on streets, and are disinfecting houses where patients have died. Antarctic Expedition. Melbourne, Sep, 6. Instructions haue been received from London to send the Antarctic expedition dogs as soon as possible to Lyttelton, the head-quarters of the expedition. Arrangements are being made to send them by an early steamer. ife Shipping Accident. Fremantle, Sep. 6. . While the steamer Ormuz was at Colombo a block carried away and struck the second officer named Leslie. He died a few hours afterwards. Australian Vines. Mslboubnb, Sep 6. At a conference of State Ministers of agriculture, it adopted a resolution asking the New Zealand Government to favorably consider the admission of Australian grapes,' known as phylloxera, they cannot ■be introduced by means of fruit.
