Wellington, This Day,-.., The Governor this morning presented Captain Walker (Waikato) or the Fourth Contingent with a distinguished service order, and also with a parchment certificate sent by the Bang. Received this day at 9.15 a.m< London, September 5. Commandant Soheeper’s finding the Capo Dutch unresponsive and the country well garrisoned, turned southwards from Swellendam.
A native points-man, who was suspected of treachery, derailed an armoured train at Taungs. Three soldiers were Jailed and five wounded. The officer was injured.. Kitchener has permitted a number ot women refugees to depart in view of contheir husbands on commandos ot the utter hopelessness of the struggle. A Cape police deserter has been sen tenced to seven years’ hard labor for joining a commando fighting outside Kimbeley.
Received this day, at 9 15 a m. London, Sept. 5. The British casualties for the month of August numbered 1,790, including 1,387 invalided home whereof 1,250 are expected to rejoin the colors. Great Britain is actively purchasing American mules.
