ANOTHER RAILWAY FATALITY.

New Plymouth, September 2. Another railway fatality occurred here this afternoon, Major Brown, aged 81, being the victim. Deceased had been buying fish near the crossing at Devon street, and as the Outward train approached the street he stepped acoross the line and was caught by the engine and dragged some distance. When extricated it was found that he was dreadfully mutilated, having one leg practically severed the other partially, and every limb more or less damaged. The remains were taken to the morgue to await the inquest on Wednesday. Deceased was an old settler here. He was the first Superintendent of the province and took a prominent part as an officer in the Maori war, and was a representative several times in the House. Latterly he was a J. P. also an interpreter. He leaves a widow and seven children, one boy being in South Africa. The greatest sorrow is evinced for his loss and much outcry is raised at the danger of the crossing,
