OPENING OF NEW SECTION OF MINE AT MOKIHINUI.

A very pleasing ceremony took place at the Mokihinui mine on Saturday afternoon (says the Westport Times), the occasion being the opening of 1 new section of the mine, which has been named tho "Robin Hood.'' The workmen met on the Hope Road near the Binns. when one of them proposed "Success to the Robin Hood Section" coupled with the name of Mr George Lomas, and eulogised the Company for their pluck and perseverance. Mr Lomas in reply gave some interesting information concerning tho progress made by the Company since he bad been connected with it, until the present time. They had paid away the undermentioned amount of money—- £ Wages 9,000 Railway haulage ... 4,300 Rent of lease 150 Stores and plant ... 800 Total 14,250 Before concluding Mr Lomas thanked the men for their loyalty and hoped they would all do better in the future. One thing is very noticeable about the binns, there is a fall of 35ft from where the coal is discharged from tho tubs to the bottom of the binns 'and as it is of a soft friable nature, the drop does it great injury and makes more slack than it would do otherwise; provided better appliances were adopted. This is a serious matter as tho larger the coal can reach tho market a higher price is obtained. We have no doubt tho proprietors of tho mino will give thi3 thoir attention as soon as possible, and we heartily wish them success and trust the " Robin Hood Section " will turn out better than their expectations.
