Shops and Offices' Bill
Wellington, This Day. Several hours were spent in the Committee in • the Legislative Council on Friday on the Shop- and Offices Bill. The clauses relating to the warehouses were " marked out," which means that bank clerks are also excluded from the provisions in the Bill. Jenkinson by a majority of one carried a new clause to the elVect that no barmaid should be employed in a public bar after 9 p.m.
The Minister immediately moved to report progress.
When the Hill, or rather so much of it as is left, roaches the House, it will receive a further severe handling. In face of the fact that only 13 members voted the clause under which barmaids will not be employed after nine at night, an effort will be made to have the Bill recommitted and the clause struck out in a fuller Council"
