Greymouth Evening Star. AND BRUNNERTON ADVOCATE. FRIDAY, AUGUST 23, 1901. GOLD DREDGING.

Last week, as we have already informed our readers, was the smallest average return per dredge that has been recorded for the past ten weeks It was not, however, the poorness of the ground that caused the result. Some of our best dredges only work half time, while others were stopped during the whole of the period. There was, however, a pleasing feature about the yield. Every working dredge from which returns were received more than cleared working expenses, and this is what has never been recorded since the commencement of gold dredging on the West Coast. The forecast for this week is, wo think, fairly promising. We anticipate increased yields from the Greenstone Three-Mile, Greenstone junction, Leviathan, Nelson Creek, Pactolus, Ahaura River and Grey River Consolidated, while the Buller Junction, which did not work last week, will help to swell the figures. Owing to a rise in the river, there may be a slight falling off in the Grey River and one or two other Companies, but it will not materially affect the result, and we hope to see the present week put up the record for West Coast dredging.
