NOTES FROM AHAURA.

(OUR OWN COBRIS. JONDENT). Some six months ago the Ahaura bridge waa closed to traffic while it was undergoing repairs. Pi les were driven and some planking put down, but the workmen left the bridge without finishing it and on one end old, unsound planks are merely placed to enable people and traffic generally to pass. To say at least, the bridge is in a dangerous condition—especially as no light is placed there at night. The entertainment in aid of the Grey River Hospital will be held thia evening, and given a fine evening a good big sum ehoold—Bathelaault—be handed over to the trustees.

I am sorry to hear that wo are about t° lose one of ouir respected residents in th e person of Mr W. M. Vowell who is leav ing lor the Noorth Island. We all wish him every prosperity in his new home. I am sorry to say that there aro a large number of people suffering from influenza. It seems to affect both old and young, and we will be glad when there is a change for the better.

The cold weather seems to have been very severe on the stock up here.
