[ous PARLIAMENTARY REPORTER] Wellington, Aug 20. The annual report of the Friendly Sc« eleties presented to the House this morning states that the registrations during 1900 totalled twenty one, and the registry of five branches which had ceased to exist were cancelled. The lodges for 1899 totalled 433 with a membership of 38,202, The mortality of members of Friendly Societies is very light, as compared with the general experience of the colony. While this is subject for congratulation for individual members, it cannot be so regarded from a financial point of view, for the average sickness per member as the risk increases with age and additional average expenditure on account of sick pay, is likely to exceed the. gain arising from deferred death claim and increased value of contribution. According to latest published statistics, the average capital per member in each of the Australasian colonies was—r COLONIES.
