POISONING ON THE HIGH SEAS.

Sydney, This Daj. The schooner Envy put into Singapore. Captain Straohan, who is accompanied by hia wife and son, reported he and his family and the chief officer several times on the voyage suffered from symptons of poisoning.
William Brodie, the cook, confessed that an Arab sailor gave him poison, which he put into the food. The Arab was placed in irons, and next morning he was found dead, having suicided.
Brodie was handad over to the police.

A Quack Doctor.
Woodville, This Day. Barron Gardiner was fined £3O and costs for fraudently practising as a medical doctor.
Tired of Life. Ddnedin, This Day. Ohas. Anderson, a lumper, aged 45, suicided at Port Chalmers by cutting his throat with a razor. Medical aid was summoned but it was too late.
Wellington, This Day. W. F. Simkin. manager in Wellington for A. and T. Burt and Co., was found hanging by the neck in the bathroom of of his house this morning. He had been suffering from partial paralysis for some years and lately had an attack of influenza which had caused insomnia. He leaves a widow and two children.
