THE STATE COAL MINE.

We believe there are good reasons for supposing that the State coal mine will be located in this district, and that it is not improbable that the Greymouth and Point ElizabethJJompany’s prdperty will be taken over. As our readers are aware, Messrs. Gordon, M‘Kay, Hay and Jamieson are now on the Coast in connection with the matter, and Mr. John Coom, Chief Railway Engineer, and Mr. Hales, Engineer-in-Chief, have now left for the Coast for the purpose of valuing the Greymouth and Point Elizabeth railway, with the object of ascertaining its condition and utility in connection with the Coal Creek mines. If the Government are in earnest, we know of no position where they are more likely to make a State coal mine a success than at Coal Creek.
