A “STRONG” CONTRADICTION.

(To the Editor.)

Sib,—l noticed an article in your issue of the 15th inat., referring to the Ahaura dredge and also stating that there is some friction between the directors and myself, which is a deliberate lie and not a single word of truth in it. Whoever your informant was must be some very evilminded person whoso main object'in life is to try and injure his fellow man. lam more than surprised at you, sir, for allowing such a statement as that to be published. Now sir, I may tell you that there hasn’t been the slightest friction between any one of the directors and myself. They have always given me all the assistance and encouragement that any board of directors could possibly give, and we have always worked together on the best of terms for the welfare of the Company. I would like in the future sir, that you would attend a little less to my affairs and oblige, yours etc.,— ' Peter McVicab, Dredgemaster, Ahaura Dredge. [We never object to publishing a deniaj of a statement published in our colums no matter how offensively the language in the denial is couched —and our correspondent isoffensive. Weare pleased to hear from him that there has been no friction. Our informant, who ought to know, was pretty emphatic about the matter. As to the concluding sentence the dredging industry is too important a one for this district to admit of matters in connection with it being kept out of our columns. We do not pry into private matters, but we endeavour to give the fullest publicity upon all matters effecting the industry.— Ed., E.S,].
