A WELL ESTABLISHED FINE.
‘ Purveyors to the People of New Zealand.”
KJAMS —in New Zealand at all events—are as well known in every household as the Staff of Life. Indeed one rarely hears of any other jam now-a-days, and ’tis not difficult to tell the rea-on why. The good housewife, anxious for tho health of her little ones, equally anxious to please her “ good man,” endeavours to get a wholesome and toothsome condiment free from injurious and low grade ingredients. By long experience and-, practical test she knows that Kirpatrick and Company’s jams, jellies and mar raalades are not only pure, but being manufactured with care from the finest 'fruits arc really what they represent to be —wholesome boiled fruits, carefully gathered, carefully manufactured, and carefully tinned and packed. ’Tis therefore sufficient for her to see the well known label with tho now familiar “ K ” standing out in hold relief to convince her that she has the article she desires. She sends to the grocer and orders her jams. She specifies no particular brand, but her grocer knows his business far better than to send her any other than Kirkpatrick’s. Should, however, he attempt any oth-r brand, down goes the indignant dame, and remarks: “I ordered the jam I have been accustomed to use for years past. Why did’nt you send them.” The grocer knows what is meant, and as any excuse is better than none, probably blurts forth: “ Why did’nt they send you Kirkpatrick’s r To which the curt reply is given: “No you did’nt; I only take K jam, and you can take it back again.” And back it comes and in its place the wellknown “K” tins or jars are sent. Such is the result of years careful manufacture. “ Deserve success and j'ou will command it ” can with perfect truth be applied to Messrs Kirkpatrick and Company. But it is not in jams alone that the firm excel. In many other lines, they have been equally successful. Their “ Worcestershire Sauce,” rivals the celebrated Lee and Perrins, their Mushrum Ketchup is a delicacy that once sampled is always used, while tho merits of their Jumbo Baking Powder is so well known as to require no comment. Their coffee is suck as renders the breakfast an enjoyable feast, and their spices are now used by all who know how to season a pudding and render it delicious. We do not know of any firm in New Zealand that has “ caught on ” to popular taste in so marked a degree as Kirkpatrick and Company, of whom an epicure very honestly the other day remarked: “ Why them “K” fellows have a right to be named the Purveyors to the People of New Zealand - ” Such is the result of success—success that follows merit.
' SANDER & SONS’ EUCALYPTI EX-TRACT-—Under the distinguished patronage of His Majesty the King of Italy, as per communication made by the Minister forfPoreign Affairs, through the Consul-General or Italy at Melbourne, March 14, 1878. Awarded diploma at the Amsterdam Exhibition, 188 - Acknowledged by Mdical Clinics and Universities all over the Globe.
There are imitations of Eucalypti Extract in the market, products of simple distillation, forming crude, resinous oils. In order that these crude oils may not be taken for onr pursolatile Eucalypti Extract, which is recognise by the Medical Division of the Prussian Goernment to be of perfectly pure origin, as per, nformation forwarded to us through the Consul at Melbourne, March 2, 1878, we vtate:—
It is proved by tests made by the Medical Clinics of the Universities of Bonn and Griefswald (Prussia), and reported to by Dr Schultz Professor of Pharmacology at Bonn, and Professor Dr Mossier, Director of the Medical Clines at Griefswald, that only products that are saturated with oxygen and freed of acids resinous and other substances adherent to primary distillation, will develop the sanative qualities proper to the plant. All crude oils or so-called Eucalypti Extracts, are to be classed according to the named authorit is, among the turpentines, which are abandoned long since as an internal medicament. T 1 se crude oil, or so-called Eucalypti Extracts, are discernible: -
1. By their deficiency in pungent oa j (which our product, the only genuine Eusa lypti Extract, develops most freely through ts surplus oxygen.) 2. By their alcoholic, thin, and mobile appearance, being reduced to specific density through the presence of acids. 3. By their taste, the result of contract lug tendency of resins and tanats. If these crude oils, or so-called Eucalypti Extracts, are applied by mistake in cases of croup, bronchitis, dipthcria, internal inflammation, dysentry, etc., the consequences are most appalling. For safety’s sake ask always or Sander and Sons’ Eucalypti Extract.— Sandhurst, Victoria, Australia.—SANDEß & SONS.
