OUR KUMARA LETTER.
(OUE OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
A very old identity in the person of Richard Talbot, long a resident of upper Seddon street was removed to the hospital yesterday suffering from a stroke of paralysis, which he received when in the act of entering his house. Latest information is to the effect that he is in a dying state. The numerous friends of Mr M. Maloney for some years a member of the local Borough Council and allied bodies, will hear with regret that the state of his health necessitated his entering the hospital to undergo a course of treatment, probably an operation. It is however, confidently expected that a couple of weeks at the most will see our friend once again restored to his wonted health. The annual meeting of the Kumara Jockey Club takes place to-nigbt at the secretary's office at 8 p.m. The business is to receive and adopt report and balance sheet, also election of a committee for the ensuing year. As on the members of this committee will devolve the carrying out of important works in connection with improvements to our course, it is hoped that there will be a good muster of members and that a representative and energetic committee will be - the outcome. An absurd rumour has been circulated relative to a supposed phenomenal improvement in the prospects of the Greenatone Junction Dredge. It is sufficient to say that there is no foundation for the canard. . Mr George Wilby has, I learn, received the appointment of manager of the local branch of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, in succession to Mr T. P. Fogarty.
