The Premier received a cable from Pilcher, Capetown, stating that No. 1334 Private Stack, who was reported some time ago as dangerously ill, is now progressing favorably; also that the following officers and men left South Africa by i the Harlech Castle for New ZealandLieut. Pinkington, 3317 Lindop, 3832 Davies, 3217 Cox, 34i3 Seymour, 3213 Cromwell, 2362 Flood, 1297 Kerr, 2537 Wilson. 1670 Manley, 3469 Paterson, 8725 Dewar, 2711 Walsh, 2615 Eyan, 3605 Doherty, 4408 Gibson, 3343 Freeman and 3347 Boddington. The Premier has also received a cable through the Governor stating that No. 4242 (4284 P) William Cooper Donnelly (?) Peter- Cooper Donnelly was slightly wounded at Virginia on the 7th instant. Donnelly is the only man of that name in the seventh contingent, so that the number mid name given as corrected would seem to be correct. Beoeived this day at 8 54 a. m. London, August 14. The Commission appointed to enquire into the claims of the foreign residents in South Africa for damages caused through the war, heard some interesting evidence, and rebutting claims for hardships to certain Americans. Evidence shows that some of the claimants were deported in connection with the plot against Lord Boberts, because they belonged to secret ■oolet'es, while others were often in prison. The Chairman on behalf of the Government offered travelling expenses if anyone of these claimants would attend the sittings of the Commission. . The transport Harlech Castle has sailed for Australia with time expired troopers. Britain Secures West African Territory. London, August 14. Monsamollah has ceded all his territories on the banks of the Gambia making the river as far as the Anglo-French frontier British.
