SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.
A Christchurch message states that at a meeting of the Lyttelton Harbor Board a motion was carried—“ That the question oi improving the present methods of discharging and loading vessels at Lyttelton be referred to the Harbor Improvement Committee for thorough investigation, the Committee to have power to call for expert evidence.” A sea as rough as any experienced at Fiji for many years raged along the coast on July 5. In four hours it quite demolished the wreck oi the bargue Norden (recently purchased by the Union Steam Ship Company), of which not a trace remained when the fury of the elements had subsided. The Union Company had lost no time in removing the sails and other gear, and secured the sails, provisions, and all o;her movables. It was as well they did so, as during the week the week tke waves swept the vessel from end to end, and it was impossible to board her.
