REEFTON MINING NEWS.

Progress Mines—Stoping has been continued throughout the mine from No. 3 to No. 9 levels and development on levels Nos. 2, 3 and 9, also driving at shaft. The total quantity of rock mined was 4,577 tons, which were transported to mill and crushed, the yield being IGOozs l-tdwt 22gr of gold valued at £6,652 11s. 85 tons of concentrates were chlorinated, yielding bullion to the value of £IOO3 4s Bd. 1,476 tons of accumulated tailings were elevated and concentrated, yielding bullion to the value of £334 12s 6d. The development work in the mine amounted to 341 feet of driving and cross cutting and 20 feet of rising. Shaft B : An engine has been installed at the brace of this shaft, and is now engaged bailing out the water. Wealth of Nations. —During the month 997 tons of quartz were crushed, yielding 2670 z 3dwt 18gr, valued at £IO9B 16s 2d, Six tons of concentrateswere produced, and 602 tons of coarse sands were cyanided, the latter yielding bullion to the value of £487 16s 7d. Stoping was carried out on Nos. 4, 5. and 6 levels. No 5 level was advanced 46 feet during the month, and No 6 raised 33 feet.

Golden Fleece.— During the month Nos. 8, 9 and 10 slopes were worked and development carried on in levels Nos. 6 south and 10 north. Footage for the month on development work was as follows: No. 6 level has bc.en advanced - a distance of 64 feet. No. 6 rise has been put up a distance of 43 feet. No. 10 north crosscut has been 14 feet. Perseverance tunnel has been raised a distance of ten feet. The contractors for the shaft have now reached a total depth of 115 feet. 1307 tons of quartz were put through the mill, giving a return of 4860 z 7dwt 6gr of bullion, valued at £1950 3s 7d. 910 tons were treated by cyanide, producing bullion to the value of £475 10s.
