FREE TRADE BANQUET.
(by electric telegraph.)
(per press association.)
Melbourne, This Day. The annual Free Trade dinner was largely attended by members of the Federal Houses. Reid declared that Barton’s attitude over the Old Age Pensions was a cruel deception of Australians. He condemned the method of appointing persons to the Civil Service. The Free Trade Party wanted the tariff settled by the voice of the people, which had not yet been heard on that question and would have to be fought out by means of referendum. The people of Australia had sent a Free Trade majority into the Senate.
