The Senate adopted a resolution to the effect that it is expedient the Commonwealth Parliament should accept powers to make laws in Australia as to wages, hours, and the conditions of labour. In the House of Representatives Mr Barton, in replying to criticisms prior to the Defence Bill being read a second time, said that he would not attempt, and had no desire to do anything to cause the same category as Continental conscription.
