DREDGING THE LAGOON.
We are pleased to note that the Greymouth Harbor Board has taken up the question of dredging the lagoon in order to secure in times of drought a better scour on the bar, and thereby keep it clear and deep. At last night’s meeting Mr Mathieson moved that the engineer bring up a report that day month upon the matter with the object of commencing operations forthwith. Mr Hales, the Engineer-in Chief, quite recently impressed upon members of the Board the urgent necessity for such work being undertaken, pointing out that a vast reservoir capable of clearing the bar at every tide Was being lost through neglecting to clear away a few sand banks that existed at various points aind impeded the flow of water. The recent dry weather has shown the necessity for additional scour, and it is not likely that the Board having had its attention so clearly pointed to the necessity for dredging, will let the matter rest longer than is absolutely necessary.
