GENERAL MINING NEWS.
The Wareatea Company received 31 applications for the position of dredgemaster and 10 for that of engineer. It is stated that 1300 oz of gold have been brought to Cooklcown by passengers on the schooner Jessie Riley from New Guinea, chiefly from Woodlark Island and the mainland. It is said a rich discovery has been made on the mainland, • The-conditions for dredging have again been fairly favourable and steady returns; should be recorded. As next week the Bocklands and Old Diggings dredges will be in full working order the interest in dredging on the Duller Eiver should be enhanced. *
From Duller County the gazetted return of quantity and value of gold entered for exportation from New Zealand for the quarter ended 30th June, 1901, gives the following 13870zs valued at £5564; from Inangahna, 10,4320va valued at £41,943; from Grey 45660zs valued at £18,861; from Westland 46210zs valued at £18,625, _
