A CORONATION OATH PROTEST.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, July 80
The following motion was passed at a meeting of Orangemen, presided over by H. J. Ranger, Grandmaster of the South Island :—Wo members of the Loyal Orange Institution of Christchurch, N.Z., view with alarm the proposal to alter the declaration or Coronation oath. As loyal subjects of His Imperial Majesty King Edward VII., we earnestly and emphatically protest against any alteration which may alter the constitution and Protestant character of the Coronation oath, which is a bulwark of our Protestant religion, freed >m of thought, and religious liberty. We recognise and assert that it is essential for the preservation of our civil and religious liberties and freedom of the British Empire from polidcal and foreign influence of the Vatican, that the Sovereign’s declaration and coronation oath bo maintained unimpaired. The motion was supported by Revs J. Ward and G- Manifold and other speakers.
