Burglary in Wellington. Wellington’, This Day. A burglar got into the Alexander Maternity Home lastnight, butdecamped on one of the inmates raising an alarm. He had broken in by a window but had got no plunder, Not the Man. Napieb, July 81. John Prior, who was supposed to be the man drowned in the Clive a fortnight ago, has turned up and reported himself to the police.
Football Disqualification. .Wellington, This Day. The Wellington Rugby Union last night approved of its management committee’s - action in suspending the Melrose Club. The wholesale suspension of the Olub was removed, but it was resolved that mem* hers of the First Fifteen and Committee be suspended until an apology be received from their members individually.
Election of Ednoation Boards. Auckland, July 31. ' A meeting of chairmen of the city and suburban school committees, last night, unanimously condemned the present system of the election of members of the Education Board, on the ground that there was secrecy. It was decided to request the Minister to have an alteration made in the Act during' the present session to enable a vote by ballot to be taken.
Lizzie Bell Enquiry, New Plymouth, July 81. At the enquiry into the Lizzie Bell, Capt Rees said the vessel was well found in every respect. The crew were well qualified,, and had a full complement. The compasses were tested at Glasgow, Between Dunedin and Wellington the steering compass was affected by the icon of the vessel. She hact a narrow escape on the Ninety Mile beach but this was was due to a gale, and not to the compasses. Found Drowned. Dunedin, This Day. Michoal Hughes, aged 66 years, was found drowned by his son m « water hole on his farm near MosgieL
