At the Arbitration Court to-day, Rouse and Hurrell, coachbuilders, wore fined 40s and costs, for employing a number of journeymen at less than the minimum wage, 10s a day. It is staled that the Industrial Award Court wished it understood that in future cases where breaches were clearly proved, and where a second breach was proved, it would bo severe in its penalty ; awards were not mere waste paper affairs, but were serious judgments. If the Court found that employers or workmen thought they could commit breaches of award vith impunity, then it would deal severely. Awards must be obeyed, and it would insist on conditions being carried out. Christchurch, July 29.

The Arbitration Court will commence its sitting at Christchurch on Friday. The hairdressers dispute will be taken first. Justice Cooper decided some time ago that hairdressers came within the scope of the Conciliation Arbitration Act, but intimated a willingness to accept an injunction prohibiting the Court going on with the dispute until the question of the scope of the Act was definitely decided by the supreme court. The printers machinists and lithographers case will probably be taken on Saturday, and the butchers case on Monday,
