The Boers attacked a refugee camp at Aluval, but were repulsed. ‘ Details ol the capture of Latigan'a laager show that ninety of Lukin’s Cape Bifles followed the track of a stolon cart across Ihs veldt, ultimately locating the hiding place and defeating 150 of the enemy, Lieut Webby with twelve men while trying to outflank Latigan on a ridge was Confronted by forty Boers who killed one and wounded four, Webby held the position for an hour until guns arrived, which scattered the Boers. Received this day, at 9 2 a.m. London, July 29. Privates R. Scott and J. Pitt, of the Manchester Regiment, have been awarded the Victoria Cross, for holding a sangar, and fighting foodless and waterless for 16 hours at Caesar's Camp on January 6th.
