THE STOWAWAY NUISANCE.

[Pee Peess Association.]

Auckland, This Day. The Purser of the Sonoma says the stowaway nuisance is becoming serious. Last trip from Sydney there were eight stowaways on the steamer that had to be carried to Somoa. Being Americans they could not be dealt with here. At PagoPago the Co. had to pay Court fees, and then send the men back to Sydney. At the police Court this morning two men pleaded guilty to travelling by the Sonoma from Sydney without paying fares and fined £i the amount of the passage, or a month’s imprisonment. The Magistrate said he had no doubt they were undesirable immigrants, but he had no power to send them back to Sydney.
