[Oue Parliamentary Reporter.]
Illness of the Premier. Wellington, July 29. Seddon has been confined to his residence with a sore throat since Friday night. The usual weekly meeting of the Cabinet had to be held there.
Graduated Laud Tax.
There is no foundation for the report that the Graduated Land Tax is to be raised. The Premier merely threw out a threat in the course of a debate on the Land for Settlements’ Act that if the aggregation of large estates was continued despite the policy of Government to place people on the lands, he might find it necessary to increase taxation by reducing the exemptions under the graduated tax. This lias been taken in certain quarters as a direct intimation of what tne Budget will propose.
