WHARF LABORERS’ UNION.
Welcome to Troopers Johnston and Dunford.
The Greymouth Wharf Laborers gave a social in the Lyceum Hall last night to welcome home from South Africa Troopers Johnston and Dunford, who had done their duty welL Mr Davie occupied the chair, and Mr J. Goodall the vice chair. Apologies were read from Messrs Mason, Martin, and Trooper H, Brown.
After the “King" had been duly honored the Chairman, in an excellent address, accorded the returned Troopers a cordial welcome home, and congratulated them on the part they had played. The two troopers accorded the Company their hearty thanks for the reception accorded them. They had endeavoured to do their part, and show that Greymouth could send its small oontribution to the war (oheers). “ The Army and Navy, ” “ Wharf Labourers Union, ’’ “ Kindred Societies, ” “ The Ladies, ” “ Press, ” and Mr Carter, the organiser of the Union, were proposed and responded to, and a very sociable evening spent.
