Advance to Settlers’ Bill
The Government Advances to Settlers’ Extension Bill, is short measure, giving the Government power to raise for the purpose of advances to settlors an additional loan of two millions of which not more than one million must he raised in any financial year. Compulsory Taking of Land. Under the Land for Settlements Act Amendment Bill, the prococdnre provided regarded to the compulsory taking of land and for dealing with unrepresented absentees claims, in order to prevent any evasion or avoidance of provisions of the principal Act as a right owner to select and retain any limited part of an Estate intended by or acquired by Crown. It is provided that the area of the whole Estate shall be computed as at commencement of negotiations for purchase, and no subsequent disposition of the Estate or any part of it shall operate to defeat the Powers of the Crown to acquire land. Money Lenders Bill. Wellington, This Day. The Money Lenders Bill provides where proceedings arc taken by money lenders for recovery of money the Court may revise the transaction if it considers it harsh and unreasonable and may alter as it thinks fit. Money lenders must be registered only under his own or usual trade name. Penalties of £IOO for the first offence ; the second, three months imprisonment and a penalty for inducing a person to borrow money under false representations ; and for the third imprisonment for any term not exceeding two years with or without hard labour or a penalty no exceeding £SO or Doth.
